Seattle Has Historic Ties To Alaska. So Anchorage's Team Is The Seattle Seahawks
Seattle and the entire state of Alaska have an historic link with each other. During the 1898 Gold Rush, travelers came through Seattle to pick up gear for their trip up north, by small ship.
Later, Seattle remained the first stop for many Alaskans headed to the Lower 48. In the 1980's, regular radio coverage of Seattle Seahawks games ("The Seahawks: Alaska's Team!") gave Alaska a chance to root for Dave Krieg.
In more recent years, the appreciation of the Seahawks is back. Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson has teamed up with sponsor Alaska Airlines to support the team. As the 2014 big game approached, Seattle sports paraphernalia was impossible to find anywhere in Anchorage.
