Homer: There's Nothing Like Homer Humor

Alaskan humor in Homer, AlaskaThere's nothing quite like Alaska humor. It's a little like Redneck humor. Or Maine humor.

Especially in Home Sweet Homer.

Homer is at the  "End of The Road." Miles from Anchorage, south of the city, on the faraway coast, Homerites try to outdo each other with funny names and puns. It's such an art form down here, in fact, that it gave rise to one of America's better-known humorists, Tom Boddett, a Homerite who went on to leave the light on for you in the national Motel Six ads. This store on the Homer Spit, with the words "Homer Sapiens" on what appears to be a temporary banner,  just goes to show you: "There's No Place Like Homer."
