Extreme Valdez Sport: Ice Climbing On Frozen Waterfalls At Entrance To Town

Valdez Alaska south of Thompson Pass.
Bridal Veil Falls On The Richardson Highway.
When it's springtime in Alaska, the sunlight comes back, and the countryside is covered with ice and snow. It's a perfect time for outdoor sports -- from cross-country skiing to dog mushing. The frozen waterfalls just north of Valdez on the Richardson Highway look like huge stalactites. Motorists driving between Valdez and Glennallen can look over and see tiny roped-in specks -- ice climbers -- clawing their way up the ice, just for fun.
