Chainsaw Carving On The Kenai Peninsula
Chainsaw carving is a real Kenai Peninsula-area artform. This is a "couch" in Cooper Landing. A massive log was dried over several years and then carved by a local chainsaw artisan. (You'll sometimes see chainsaw artists performing near the road as you drive through rural Alaska.) The dangerous, hot running chainsaw is used exclusively to cut the sculpture. A piece like this takes at least several days to make. Chainsaw art themes? Mostly bears and eagles.
